Winter weddings can often feel a little less traditional — especially in an age of al fresco dining beneath the trees. While I love events in every season for different reasons, I personally hosted my wedding in winter, which has given me a special appreciation for this time of year.

A Cozy, Inviting Atmosphere
Winter weddings naturally create a sense of warmth and closeness. Indoor celebrations with candlelight, rich textures, and soft lighting feel intimate and welcoming — perfect for bringing people together in a relaxed, unhurried way.
Our venue featured a fireplace, and I opted for custom ceiling draping, which added layers and texture to the space. Between an amazing DJ and a group that truly loved to dance, the contrast of being indoors with the darkness outside created an epic dance-party atmosphere.

Winter is typically a slower season for weddings, which often means more flexibility when booking venues and vendors. Couples may find greater availability with top-tier professionals and more ease in building their ideal wedding team.
Seasonal Florals & Greenery
While it’s true that many florals are available year-round, I trusted my florist to guide me toward what was truly in season. I shared a general vision and expressed interest in locally sourced florals, then let her take the lead.
We kept a classic white and green palette, but instead of traditional roses, she incorporated Helleborus — a flower I had never heard of before but couldn’t have imagined replacing. Evergreens, textured foliage, and seasonal blooms bring depth and character without feeling overdone.
Thoughtful Guest Experiences
Colder months invite more creative guest experiences. I knew a margarita on the rocks or an ice cream cart probably wouldn’t fit the season, so instead we brought in a coffee cart for welcome drinks and throughout cocktail hour.
Warm beverages upon arrival, cozy lounge seating, couches, pillows, and candlelight helped the space feel comfortable and inviting. These small touches can make a meaningful impact and elevate the overall guest experience.
