24 hours at the Ritz-Carlton!

A quick 24-hour trip and a single sunset over the cliffs is enough to change your life.
With my background in high-end hospitality, I truly appreciate the elegance and effort that hotels like this put into every detail.

It was just a quick 1.5-hour drive from our home in Windsor. And when we arrived—blue skies! It was such a treat to enjoy the West Coast with clear skies in July. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating.

First order of business: unpacking in our room. Even though it was a short trip, I love to fully immerse myself in the space and enjoy it—not from my suitcase. We walked the property, which just so happened to include front-row seats to a golf tournament.

The room was so inviting, comfortable, and elevated. My vocabulary’s a bit limited when it comes to colors, but there were these gorgeous shades of blue that perfectly complemented the ocean view through our window. A total dream.

Every detail was thought through—from the luxe bathroom products and the soft lighting to the peaceful music playing when we walked in.

For dinner, we hopped back into town to check out a local brewery, Half Moon Bay Brewing Co. It’s all about balance for us. And I’m glad we did—it gave us a taste of the area and what the community has to offer.

The brewery had just celebrated 25 years! How cool is that? Sad we missed the party, but we’re already planning our return visit. This spot sat right on the bay. It was a little chilly, so we sat inside, though the patio was lined with fire pits and still an option.

The vibe was rustic and old-school, and the food and beer were so good. We’re IPA lovers, and both went for the Full Swing IPA (which we liked so much we brought home a 4-pack).

To eat:

  • We started with buffalo wings—spicy, flavorful, and the perfect kick-off.

  • Then came the seafood pasta with fresh garlic bread on sourdough (all seafood caught fresh and local—yes please).

  • We also split a cod sandwich on ciabatta, and wow... it was so flavorful.

Here’s the thing: every experience is what you make of it.

Dan and I have had a really busy month, it was our one night away from our toddler, and neither of us felt like dressing up. So we threw on our sweatpants and matching hoodies, grabbed a couple of beers, and headed to the fire pits with his camera.

We gave ourselves permission to relax—to enjoy our time, together and separately, in a beautiful place.

Watching the sunset by the fire was everything. It grounded me. It inspired me. I felt like I could do anything my heart desired.

As the sun was setting, a bagpiper came out! It was so cool. Seriously—front row seats for everyone as he moved around the property, playing a song or two for each section of rooms and fire pits to enjoy. It felt like we were in a movie... or on the coast of Scotland!

We were up and on our way early the next morning. After my everything shower (all my girls get it), I soaked up every second in that bathroom and wished I could pack it up and take it home with me. Talk about luxury!

On our way out of town, we stopped at the cutest little coffee shop called Cafe Society—and I had the best muffin I’ve ever had. I’m already working on recipes to recreate it at home!

The Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay is absolutely worth it.
I cannot wait to go back for a longer stay and re-immerse ourselves in everything they have to offer. From the Run Club to The Conservatory, it all looked amazing.

Friendly tip: they totally welcome sweatpants and want you to relax and enjoy your stay—however that looks for you. Which, honestly, is the ultimate hospitality.

Editor’s Note: Our stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay

Coming from the hospitality world, I have a deep appreciation for a place that puts thought into every little touch. It’s the Ritz!

When Dan told me we were staying there, I kind of freaked out… in the best way.
But honestly, I was also a little nervous.

He was going for a photography job. Trips like these allow me to step away from my day-to-day, support his business and enjoy a little vacation while we’re at it.

Let’s make the most of this work life.
